Brandon Waite (b. 1986) is a painter based in Nevada whose work blends classical oil painting techniques with contemporary sensitivity. Rooted in figuration, portraiture, and landscape, his paintings explore memory, atmosphere, and the quiet presence of the observed world. With a background in illustration and design, Brandon brings a considered approach to composition and form, but his studio practice is centered on the tactile richness of paint—its ability to convey both material and emotion. Working primarily in oil, he seeks to create images that feel timeless yet personal, grounded in light, gesture, and nuance.

Statement

My work is rooted in the physicality of oil painting—a conversation between tradition and immediacy. I’m drawn to the medium’s depth, its history, and the quiet drama of how color, light, and form unfold across a surface. Each painting begins as an exploration, where instinct and intention meet in the layering of pigment and gesture. I’m interested in what exists beyond the visible image: the weight of memory, the atmosphere of place, the emotional texture of a moment.

Working primarily with figures, portraits, and landscapes, I seek to create images that feel both grounded and luminous—anchored in observation, yet open to interpretation. My process is slow and deliberate, allowing time for the painting to reveal itself. The imperfections, the buildup, the subtle shifts in tone and edge—these are where the story lives.

At the heart of my practice is a belief in the power of looking closely. Whether in the studio or out in the landscape, painting is a way of paying attention, of holding space for what is fleeting, and translating it into something enduring.
