Joshua Orozco / BlueprintAko
San Diego, CA
Hi, I’m Joshua Orozco — a Filipino-American painter based in San Diego, California.
MessageJoshua Orozco is a San Diego-based oil painter whose work explores quiet moments, memory, identity, and the emotional connection between people and place. Painting under the name BlueprintAko, he creates atmospheric figurative and landscape works that balance realism with expressive brushwork and mood.
Inspired by personal experiences, fleeting light, and imagined narratives, his paintings invite viewers into spaces of reflection and stillness. Orozco’s work has been featured in regional and national juried exhibitions, including shows at Ashton Gallery, The Studio Door, Art Scene West, and the San Diego County Fair Fine Art Exhibition.
What does "blueprintAko" mean?
The name “blueprintAko” blends two ideas that are central to who I am. “Blueprint” represents design, intention, and construction — a nod to both my visual storytelling and the structured discipline I’ve developed through my Navy career. “Ako” means “me” in Filipino, grounding the name in my cultural identity. Together, “blueprintAko” is a declaration: this is my design, my voice, my story in progress. It reflects my journey as a queer Filipino-American artist, navigating the layers of self, memory, and visibility through every brushstroke.
Statement
My work explores quiet moments of reflection, memory, and the emotional connection between people and place. Through oil painting, I create atmospheric scenes that balance realism with expressive brushwork, often focusing on solitude, stillness, and subtle human presence.
Many of my paintings are inspired by personal experiences, fleeting observations, or imagined narratives shaped by emotion rather than exact documentation. I’m drawn to moments that feel familiar yet difficult to fully explain—the kind that linger long after they pass.
As both an artist and active-duty U.S. Navy Sailor, painting has become a way for me to process identity, transition, and the contrast between structured environments and inner reflection. My goal is not simply to recreate a scene, but to create a mood that allows viewers to slow down, reflect, and form their own connection to the work.
Thanks for stopping by — I hope my art speaks to something within you.
