This is a painting I made during an artist residency at the Studios at MASS MoCA in December of 2019, a couple months before my first child was born. I'm working a lot with the uncertainty of going into something completely new and the fear of what will have to be given up; the good and the bad in a tenuous harmonious balance but overwhelmingly good and positive. I'm playing with colors and layering pattern between poured and smeared paint, creating tensions between the ordered and the chaotic and a sense of space between where life can be lived.
