MessageBlair Owens is a self-taught oil painter and Wilmington, North Carolina native whose work is closely connected to nature, her faith, and the experiences that shape her life. Her background as a registered nurse influences the way she approaches painting, with an emphasis on attentiveness, care, and presence. Creating art has become another way for her to find healing and restoration in her own life, and she hopes her work carries peace to others.
Blair is drawn to sunlit skies over coastal waterways, wildflowers and seasonal blooms, and the organic beauty she notices along hiking trails. Working primarily in oil, she enjoys the depth, texture, and slower pace the medium allows. Painting has become a therapeutic way for her to exhale and translate moments of calm and wonder into lasting work.
Her paintings are meant to inspire a sense of awe for the ordinary (and extraordinary) beauty found in nature, and to bring peace into the spaces they inhabit.
Statement
I am self-taught oil painter whose career as a Registered Nurse profoundly shapes my art. Like nursing, painting allows me to express my gifts of attentiveness, perception, and care - to notice details that might otherwise go unseen. Art is another way I bring healing and peace to hearts and homes. Through painting, I find restoration that renews me as an artist and extends outward to others.
I enjoy working with oils because of their depth, richness, and texture. Each brushstroke is a way of slowing down and translating the beauty I encounter in nature into a lasting story. Much of my inspiration is stirred by the calming coastal views of Wilmington, North Carolina, where I reside. I often study nature while hiking in the mountains, taking time to notice delicate blooms, changing light, and quiet details that later become reference points for my work. I am especially moved by sunrises over the ocean, wildflowers gracing a mountain path, and the golden glow of a coastal evening. My palette is peaceful yet vibrant, reflecting the renewal I find in these landscapes.
Painting, for me, is a bridge between the inner and outer landscape. Just as nursing seeks to restore the body, I hope my art offers restoration for the spirit. Each canvas is an invitation to pause, breathe, and reconnect with beauty. My hope is that my work serves as a balm for the soul - a reminder that peace and wonder are always present, waiting to be beheld.
