Therese Bisceglia embarked on her artistic journey more than four decades ago, in Boston, MA, following the completion of her BFA at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her early recognition came from her work in handmade paper. In the late 1980s, Therese, alongside her husband, found a new creative haven in Santa Fe, NM. There, she continued her paper-making endeavors and with the partnership of her husband, opened "Off The Wall," their contemporary crafts gallery situated on Canyon Road.
During her time in Santa Fe, Therese's artistic expression expanded beyond paper. She created monoprints, furniture, paintings, and works in clay.
In 2013, Therese and her husband sought a new adventure in North Myrtle Beach, SC, where she continues to nurture her artistic vision. Her current body of work delves into two and three-dimensional mixed media, inspired by her profound love for the human figure, abstraction, travel, collage, family heritage, and storytelling.
Therese's art has found a global audience, with exhibitions and collectors extending across the United States, Germany, France, and Japan.
Statement
In my artistic practice, I find it challenging to put into words the intricate layers of intention and intuition that shape each of my pieces. Much of my work unfolds intuitively, a dance of spontaneous marks and strokes, with each layer revealing a piece of the puzzle. As I paint, I grapple with personal dilemmas and explore my innermost thoughts, allowing the canvas to serve as a mirror for my journey. Just as history accumulates over time, I embrace the visual narratives of what came before, drawing inspiration from the weathered frescoes on decaying buildings, the scars on old objects, and the ironies of life.
