Abstract artist working with water, light, lines and layered material between the Seychelles and Germany.
MessageBirgitt Lübkemann is a German abstract artist living and working between the Seychelles and Germany. Her paintings are shaped by water, light, granite, movement and the invisible lines that connect people, places and inner landscapes.
Working with acrylic, oil, ink, granite dust, coconut oil and layered surfaces, she creates intuitive, process-based works that move between depth and lightness, structure and flow. Her practice is rooted in observation, material experimentation and a deep connection to nature.
Her works have been shown internationally, including in the National Gallery of Seychelles, Eden Art Space Gallery on Mahé, Berlin and Hanover.
Statement
I am fascinated by the invisible lines that connect us — across distance, time, places and inner worlds.
My work begins with intuition and material. Water, light, colour, granite dust, coconut oil, ink and paint move across the surface, forming layers, traces and openings. I follow this movement until something begins to reveal itself.
The paintings often feel like membranes or thresholds: spaces where inside and outside, depth and light, memory and presence meet. Lines appear as currents, roots, frequencies or threads of connection. They hold movement, but also stillness.
I see my work as a way of listening — to nature, to the body, to the unseen structures beneath what is visible. Each painting becomes part of a larger field: a place of transformation, resonance and connection.
