This sculpture has been repainted and the name changed to Nike v2.
Nike v1 is my first interpretation of the Winged Victory of Samothrace sculpture in the Louvre. As the goddess of strength, speed and victory, the sculpture of Nike amazes me in its depiction of power, grace and confidence.
Practically every step I went through in creating this sculpture was an experiment and a learning process. The matte finish shown consists of several coats of epoxy filled with pearl white powdered mica. It is mounted on a heavy steel base in the stylized form of the prow of a warship. The epoxy was a lot of fun to play with, but getting it to work with the LEDs was very frustrating and time consuming. I destroyed one set of lights and almost ruined the wiring on the second set. The lines the LEDs made were not what I envisioned and I was never very happy with the result. The lights had a cool effect, but I really needed to be done with it and move on.
The sculpture sat on a shelf in my studio for a couple of years until I decided to call a friend of mine that builds custom hot rods. I asked him what colors he had that would be outrageous on a sculpture and when he showed me the chameleon purple, I knew that would be the one.
Please see Nike v2 completed in August of 2025 for the new incredible paint job.
