It was so easy to balance on one leg as a child, doing seemingly incredible things, and never thinking about it twice. I have always been drawn to the colors and lines of my subjects. The Madrone trees of San Juan Island grow along the shorelines where they are whipped by wind and moved by shifting cliffs. They grow in the most beautiful curved shapes and the bark falls off to reveal a brilliant orange underneath, smooth to the touch, and eye-catching.
