"Core Memory" took me twenty years to finish. It started as a very light watercolor but I put it away. In 2024 I got it out and knew how to finish it. It depicts Trinity Park in Fort Worth, Texas, where my father would drive us every Sunday, slowly going under the railroad tracks in his 1949 Ford with no air conditioning, smelling the creosote, lying on my back on the back seat (before seatbelts or safety seats), looking up at what appeared to be huge train tracks above me, with even bigger trees above them. I loved that drive and pleaded with him each Sunday to take us through the park.
