A common wildflower in Colorado, where I photographed it. I realized after painting it that it is originally from Eurasia and Africa. Still, it’s gorgeous and tall - up to four feet. The flower was introduced as a garden plant in the early 1900’s, but has naturalized throughout the United States. It is both decorative and edible, supposedly tasting like parsnips or even oysters to some.
