Silphium, painted from reference photos taken during a walk with a friend I met through a native plant group. She kindly let me photograph the native plants growing at her home, including this striking silphium. I used a prime lens to capture soft bokeh effects in the background, emphasizing the bright, layered petals against the depth of the surrounding foliage. Painted with professional artist-quality acrylics on a 16x16 standard-depth canvas, the piece has hanging wire and is ready to frame or display.
