This piece is a synthesis of the ocean, interpreted from an aerial view, while listening to jazz and the nighttime sounds of summer. The music, the humidity, and the frogs, crickets, and cicadas all inspired this meditation in paint.
I laid down color, built it back up, and piled paint scraps along the outside edges of the canvas, which I then pressed shapes into. In some portions, the paint was applied with a palette knife over stencils, leaving raised areas. Other times, the paint was applied thickly, and I used texture tools to shape it into peaks as I scraped through. Hints of silver paint were scraped along the raised ridges, catching the light and giving the surface subtle movement.
