Together Apart | Plein Air Study | Oil on Canvas | 6x8->8x10 | ©Beth Cole
The morning was quite foggy and I had sketched a scene looking toward the sun. I was getting ready to start the canvas and I looked to the north and saw this beautifully shaped tree draped in fog and I immediately scrapped my first idea and turned to paint the tree and it’s little companion. The fog was rolling over everything. It was quite a magical morning. I want to paint a larger version of this one but I haven’t gotten to it yet. I titled it “Together Apart” and it is somewhat symbolic of the season in which we find ourselves where we can be with other people but we stay quite apart.
