The forms in this work originate in part from the synagogue where I had my bar mitzvah. It had a high vaulted ceiling and tall narrow arched ceiling-high windows with stained glass scenes. The drawing is a meditation on how religion is a way of defining order out of chaos. From this chaos, "tohu va vohu." (Genesis 1:1), God created the ordered world of daily life animated by the divine spirit here represented by the golden vase on a gridwork table representing Logos.
Dry pastel on paper.
