My hands are the tools I use to express myself. My inspiration comes from centuries-old objects. I use discarded items and transform them into something new .
MessageI was born and raised in Puerto Rico. A scholarship from the Ford Foundation allowed me to study Counseling Psychology, and build my professional career in Miami, Florida.
At the same time, I worked part-time as a volunteer for a museum in Miami. Now, that I am retired, I can give my full attention to my love of creating art.
Statement
I have always been attracted to objects that can be transformed, upscaled, functional, sustainable, and beautiful.
Inspired by centuries-old art, well preserved in museums and well-documented in art books, I have found a satisfying way to transform discarded ceramic and glass objects. I turn those into something which reminds one of vintage artifacts.
I learned papier-mache, the art of transforming paper into three dimensional sculpture, different and beautiful, and it has become the main medium to express myself.
Vintage inspired papier-Maché decorative bowls painted and sealed with matte Acri-Soy-Weatherproof sealer.
