This painting of Bowman Lake in Glacier National Park was painted en plein air from the shore line of the lake. I was participating in the Plein Air Glacier 2020 event through the Hockaday Museum in Kalispell, MT and painted several pieces in preparation for their auction and sale.
Bowman Lake is in one of the more remote areas of the park, accessible by undeveloped gravel road north of Polebridge. Although it’s a trek to get there, the stunning view of Glacier’s peaks reflected on the glass-like lake is well worth the drive.
The aggressive swarms of mosquitoes ensure visitors (and painters) don’t stay too long.
Bowman Lake is available for $525 at the Hockaday Museum. Click on “Visit Our Auction.”
Oil on cradled wood panel, 12”x6” and is framed.
