Artist: Katherine Daigle
Kathy is a traditional artist who started drawing in elementary school. She has experimented in all media, but now specializes in oil and pastel. Kathy’s use of light and shadow dominates her paintings. Vibrant color and strong designs are her desire. Captivated by the landscape, her studies have taken her to France, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Her work focuses on Louisiana landscapes, architecture and still-life.
“The motivation of my art is simple -- to express the beauty of natural elements of season, weather, and intensity of light,” she said. “I find myself increasingly excited by the play of light through a landscape or a still life. Light is powerful, playful and has a magic of movement calling to be captured on canvas. While my paintings are realistic, they are more in the Russian style, having a more ‘painterly’ look. This quality enables me to reproduce a scene with emotion to ‘capture the moment.’”
