Inspired by the NYT's article "Ready for Their Seat At the Table." A Brooklyn sisterhood of black women was formed as a support network called Olori Sisterhood. It became a political force as said by its founder Glynda C. Carr. "Black women decide elections. We can decide we are going to elect black women up and down the ticket." The sisterhood was born a decade ago by a group of women who have grown sick of being excluded from politics. A bond was formed at coffee shops and stoops all over central Brooklyn. Ms. Carr says "We have to make sure that our voices are heard and responded to." I loved their expressions. I had a long skinny end of a canvas and it asked for this painting.
