The photo in the NYT of Judy Bolden who served 18 months in a Florida prison has been barred from voting by the state until she pays all the court fines and costs associated with her conviction. That cost is $53,000. The article was about how too many Floridians are disenfranchised because of court fines and fees. Ms. Bolden is one of 700,00 that are barred from voting. Earlier this year the NYT asked Floridians whose voting rights have been denied because of criminal conviction to sit for photographs. On her dress that I didn't include was a tag with $53,000 on it. Her photo grabbed me.
