Julius Eastman died in obscurity in 1990. Over the past two decades, his music has gradually achieved a popularity he never experienced. His brother brought huge helpings of his music to Philadelphia and New York. I'm drawn to photos of mid century artists. He was among the first composers to combine minimalist processes with elements of pop music, and involve experimental methods of extending and modifying music in creating what he called "organic music."
