Inspired from the photo in The NY Times of Kris Wilkes, a NBA prospect from UCLA that got a mysterious illness on the eve of the 2019 NBA draft. The illness briefly paralyzed him and derailed his dreams of going pro. He was later diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, an autoimmune disorder otherwise known as ADEM. As one doctor put it, “It’s as rare as hen’s teeth. One in a million doesn’t even do it justice.
