Barbara Henris
Born in 1966, Barbara Henris is an oil painter who resides in Fairfax, Virginia with her husband of 35 years. She graduated with a BFBA in Business and studied for over a decade at The Art League in Alexandria VA with some of the nation's best instructors. Barbara has participated in various juried group and solo shows since 2007. Her work is in private collections throughout the U.S. and Canada and has been shown at The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA, The Artists’ Undertaking Gallery in Occoquan, VA, The Little Gallery near Roanoke, VA, and other locations throughout the mid-Atlantic.
Statement
“I work primarily in oils – painting the still life, landscape and occasionally portrait and figure. I strive for my paintings to make an emotional connection with the viewer, believing that's what defines a successful piece. I am inspired primarily by nature and light - the beauty of a single flower, a burst of color from a backyard bird or a stand of fall trees. Much of my work is focused on capturing a snapshot of an everyday object in a simple still life or an impressionistic landscape. I enjoy exalting the ordinary; challenging both myself and the viewer to slow down and appreciate what is around us all the time.”
