The S/V Denis Sullivan, owned and operated by Discovery World Ltd., was completed by over 900 volunteers and launched in 2000. This replica of a Great Lakes freight schooner, and Flagship of Wisconsin, operates as a floating classroom and goodwill ambassador for the state. From her homeport of Milwaukee on Lake Michigan, the schooner offers educational sails, public day sail and private charters for people of all ages from May through September and is committed to re-establishing the historical, cultural, and environmental bonds between the community and one of its most valuable resources, the Great Lakes. The educational programs available are a 90 minute Dockside Discovery, two to three hour Lake Watch Expeditions and two to fourteen day Science Under Sail. She also offers a “Bucket List Sail,” a multiple day voyage throughout the Great Lakes for the adventure-seeking adult. Copied from https://www.tallshipsamerica.org/vessels/denis-sullivan/ This piece is one of 5 tall ships that were racing from Sturgeon Bay to Chicago on Lake Michigan, July 2019. A local professional photographer, Patti Raine was able to get out on the lake to take photo's of the ships. She was kind enough to let me use them as a reference to render my colored pencil pieces. This artwork is part of a five tall ship collection that was made for the "Tall Ship Exhibit October/November 2019, " at Steele Street Gallery, Algoma, Wisconsin.
