Anja Bamberg
Dubai
Visual artist for more than 20 years with a wealth of experience and a passion for sustainability ... always discovering new ways.
MessageAnja Bamberg is a German artist and art therapist living in Dubai, UAE. She grew up in the north-eastern part of the GDR next to the Baltic Sea. Her passion for art has accompanied her since her early childhood. After the Master of Art, a second degree followed at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, to concentrate even more intensively on her own artistic work and to set a further focus in her profession.
The MA in Art and Design Therapy enables her to work as an art therapist in many different areas and with different people. Her own artistic work is interwoven with her work as an therapist. Both parts always influenced and stimulated each other.
In the last few years she has committed herself to her art more and more, almost exclusively. Her way of painting is powerful and rich in contrast. Her canvases are often taller than she is and become a place where she can let off steam artistically. Anja boldly reaches for color, loves to see the sheen of oil paint on canvas. In her paintings she is always looking for the greatest possible contrast, but without losing sight of the aesthetic approach. Her art is characterized by works oriented to her current environment and strongly influenced by her background.
Statement
Capturing my favorite topic WATER has been an essential part of my artistic work over the last 20 years, perhaps because I grew up by an ocean, and and everything around this theme still fascinates me today.
My artworks are characterized by the nature and the beauty of the environment transformed into paintings, drawings and sculpture combined with poems. Mixed media techniques are intense for me, and I like to weave them into several layers and on different surfaces in my artwork.
My preferred art materials are oil and acrylic paints combined with oil pastels, pencils and markers. In addition to canvas and paper, I work on new, non-traditional painting grounds like paper bags, a recycling material that draws my attention since more than a year.
My goal is to draw attention to the advancing climate crisis, that’s why working with recycling materials and handmade paper characterises my artistic practice.
