NOTHING TO DECLARE SERIES
"Nothing to declare" consists of a body of works that are process layered - deliberate - accidental - calculated - created using a blowtorch, scoring and Kakishibu (natural Japanese wood varnish).
They exist as square-shaped plywood panels, liberated from the limitations of "the right side up".
The series speaks of balance, the [non] “colour” “black”, the human condition, and pays tribute to traditional Japanese craft techniques and Black Avant-garde creatives.
The hope and intention for the works is to elicit landscape/portrait, to summon meditation, to activate memories, to share and evoke wisdom, to question.
