Holding Place is a composite artwork comprised of eight original 4 × 4 inch hand-drawn works on archival paper, created with archival alcohol inks. The individual pieces—Finding My Way, Staying Calm, A Walk in the Woods, Tense?, Ascension, Making Sense of It All, Navigating the Elements, and Ghosts in the Afterlife—were mounted and unified within a custom frame to form a single, fixed composition.
The series was created in direct connection with the care and passing of Louis Pomales and reflects on themes of grief, transition, and sustained presence. Each drawing operates as an individual meditation while contributing to a broader visual language shaped by repetition, variation, and restraint.
Presented as a single work, the framed series was donated to Signature Hospice's headquarters, where it is permanently installed in Eugene, Oregon. Within this setting, the work serves as a quiet, contemplative presence, holding space for reflection, care, and collective remembrance.
