Artist: Nann Nann (Myanmar, b. 1974)
Nann Nann (b. 1974) is one of the most prominent contemporary female artists from Myanmar, consistently creating modern artworks with her unique ideas and artistic approaches. A female sculptor, Nan Nan is known for her modern sculptures, installations, and paintings made with gold flakes on black backgrounds. Her modern sculptures often use marble, bronze, iron, bamboo, found objects, wood, and metal, as well as other medium, and combine traditional Burmese styles with contemporary modern styles.
Nan Nan grew up in an artistic family and has been creative since childhood. She earned her diploma from the School of Fine Arts in 1993 and a degree in sculpture from the Yangon University of Culture in 1998. She also studied in London in 1999. Nan Nan’s work has won many awards, including recognition at the Myanmar Contemporary Art Awards in 2004. Her sculptures, installations, and paintings have been collected by private and public collectors, both in Myanmar and internationally. Some of her works are still on display in prominent locations in Yangon. Nan Nan has exhibited her art in several countries, including Hong Kong, San Francisco, Canada, Italy, Paris, and Singapore.
