Artist: Marlar (1953-2021)
U Marlar (1953–2021) was a celebrated Burmese painter renowned for his luminous watercolour landscapes depicting Myanmar’s rivers, pagodas, and rural life. Born in Mandalay Region, he studied at the State School of Fine Arts and later taught there, influencing a generation of young artists. His years with the Department of Archaeology inspired his focus on Myanmar’s heritage and ancient sites. Founder of the Myanmar Watercolor Society, Marlar’s works are admired for their serenity, precision, and deep cultural resonance. His paintings were widely exhibited, collected internationally, and cherished by figures such as Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
