  • Artist: Lun Gywe (1930-2025)

U Lun Gywe (1930–2025) was one of Myanmar’s most celebrated modern painters, known for his luminous impressionist style and graceful depictions of Burmese life. Born in Yangon, he trained under several masters of the Burmese art tradition and later became principal of the State School of Fine Arts. His paintings—often featuring women in motion, dancers, or serene rural scenes—are filled with fluid brushstrokes and warm, glowing colour, blending Eastern sensitivity with Western Impressionism. Influenced by his studies in China and Europe, U Lun Gywe developed a style that felt both spontaneous and spiritual. A teacher, mentor, and cultural icon, he left behind a legacy that continues to shape Myanmar’s art landscape today.
