Artist: Kyee Myintt Saw
Kyee Myintt Saw was born in 1939 in Yangon, Myanmar, and initially pursued mathematics, earning a B.Sc in 1966 and an M.Sc in 1990 before committing fully to painting.
His art captures the vibrant pulse of Burmese life under tropical sun and city lights — especially marketplace scenes, dawn markets, and rain-washed nights, where the interplay of light and shadow becomes his true subject.
Often working in oil and acrylic, he brings together rich Myanmar-colours with a sense of mobility and atmosphere: the bustle of a Yangon market, the gleam of street lamps, the quiet loneliness hidden within crowds.
Before focusing exclusively on his art, he taught at the Yangon Arts & Science University and the Institute of Economics. His career spans over seventy group and solo exhibitions, both in Myanmar and internationally.
Kyee Myintt Saw’s paintings invite the viewer to pause in motion — to feel the heat of midday light, to hear the murmur of a night-market, to sense solitude amid a crowd.
