Emerged from a sketch that was done with spontinaety; looking for a form to emerge without any specific idea. I create many drawings this way, and look for something that speaks to me and has compositional interest. I like this one because it reminded me of a figure. I sculpted it by making a steel wire armature, soldered it together and then covered in aluminum mesh. The contour is shaped with a Forton MG cement: a material like stucco, or self-hardening clay.
As the work is completed, the meaning becomes clear, and the title comes as I finish it up. This form is a figure with the head as a loop inside the large circle. the square is his torso. there is a waist, legs and feet. The other small loop could be a shoulder or another head resting on his shoulder. This form is like an energy signature of an existence, or the memory of a thought, The thought is an image of how I have viewed the future throughout my life. The future is often colored by our emotions, so we should not look at it anyway, but rather focus on the present. When I stopped looking at the future with fear and started looking at it with intention, things started to change for me.
