The Harley Brown Amphitheater is east of Thornton's Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center. The stage is used for outdoor concerts and events throughout the year. Public art was added to the amphitheater to add playful, creative elements to existing infrastructure.
Titled "Kaleidoscope", this public art includes painted concrete spheres that are anchored to the ground, and colorful kaleidoscope patterns installed on the concrete walls. The kaleidoscope patterns are printed on high pressure laminate (HPL) phenolic panels designed to resist fading and withstand Colorado's weather.
"Kaleidoscope" was created by artist DiAnne Cooper of Arvada, Colorado. After serving in the Navy in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Cooper chose to enter creative fields. Her work as a sculptor and painter can be found under her own name or as "DL Cooper". Cooper operated DL Cooper Studios and Cooper and Cunningham.
This project was made possible thanks to amphitheater improvement funding received from the Adams County Open Space Fund.
