This painting was inspired by my exploration of the term food apartheid, coined by Karen Washington, which she argues should replace the term food desert. I think transportation falls into this category and wanted to highlight that. Not only is it important to have local food access but also the means to get there. Having a car is a privilege not everyone can afford and a huge factor in where you source your food.
