Titled "River Stones," artist Terry Weldon, in collaboration with landscape architect Charles Caplinger, created an environmental installation of five cast stones, benches, trees, and grass. The artwork marks the location of St. Mary's Market, the second oldest public marketplace in New Orleans and reflects the neighborhood's historic character. Diamond Park provides a pleasant place for walks or for lunch during breaks in convention sessions and a visual improvement of the environment immediately adjacent to the Convention Center facility.
From the beginning, this project was envisioned as both a feature for Convention Center users and as an attraction for the neighborhood. With little green space in close proximity to the Convention Center, the Diamond Park area has become a welcome open space for tourists and residents alike.
