Located at the point where Verret St. and Sequin St. meet Opelousas Ave., the artwork titled Iron House, is a large free-standing sculpture made of cast iron and steel, with an open door welcoming visitors to Delcazal Park and to the Algiers Point neighborhood.
Artists, Coral Lambert and Elijah Sproles, wanted to capture the area's historic past and its contemporary character in the design of this freestanding sculpture. To capture that spirit, Algiers Point community members, including Holy Name of Mary and Behrman school students, were asked to contribute ideas and objects that represented their home and neighborhood. Everything from children's drawings to termite nests were brought in as symbols of the area. Plasticene impressions of these objects were cast in iron and integrated into the Iron House.
