“Working Together for Others” is a part of the Capitol Avenue Bronze public art collection . . donated to the City of Cheyenne by private individuals, organizations or companies.

This sculpture is dedicated to Cheyenne citizens, past, current, and future who have recognized that by working together with those from different backgrounds, they are successfully building a greater community for all. The name of the statue derives from motto and mission of Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, California, a boarding school Larry Atwell attended for two years, graduating in 1956.

The school’s mission was:

We shape boys into the men God has called them to be. We work with students to cultivate their gifts and talents, and ultimately to put those talents at the service of others—to be Men for and with Others.

Larry, the longtime head of the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, has always been how on several occasions various people have worked together to achieve significant progress. Larry was involved with many community leaders in Art in Public Places, the County Courthouse renovation and addition, and the Cheyenne Depot Square development.

Larry has long wanted to sponsor outdoor art and he and his wife Connie have contributed to several bronze statues in the downtown area. When the Capitol Avenue Bronze Project took shape, he asked to participate because it was part of his long-held vision for the city and a personal priority. Larry believes this statue reflects the spirit of the Capitol Avenue Bronze Project and is in keeping with the mission he learned at Bellarmine College Prep.
