Siren
- Steel
- Randy Olson
"Siren" is an interactive art piece on loan to the City of Cheyenne through Arts Cheyenne's "Kinetic Art Project: Wind, Water, and Light."
"Siren" is a wind reactive, metal, kinetic sculpture that creates sound as a result of changes in wind direction. Eight chime cylinders are struck by hammers activated by the motion of the two tail fins. Completely self-contained, and powered only by the wind, "Siren" can create an occasional single note – or a cacophony of sound – all dependent on the ever-changing characteristics of the wind.
A contradiction of elements, cold hard steel and sun-warmed wind unite in this work to create a sculpture whose composition is constantly changing. These conflicting qualities work to create a dynamic interaction between sculpture and environment, where the visible strength of steel is brought to life by the unseen power of the wind.
