World Champion bull rider, Lane Frost, lost his life at the age of 25 competing at the 1989 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. As a former bull rider, Casper-based sculptor Chris Navarro wanted to honor the great young athlete who paid the ultimate price doing what he had a passion and love for. Chris self-commissioned the "Champion Lane Frost" bronze and did the bulk of the fundraising himself.

The monument was dedicated on July 26, 1993 and is located at the entrance to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum in Cheyenne.
