About halfway between Duluth and the Canadian border situated on the scenic North Shore lies the Temperance River mouth. Through bedrock formed over a billion years ago, the Temperance River twists and carves its way from Brule Lake through pristine wilderness creating deep potholes, waterfalls and other natural phenomena until it pours into view of the lake. Surrounded by pine, spruce, cedar and birch trees, the Temperance River mouth opens up to the seemingly infinite blue waters of Lake Superior and beyond.
With landscape as a primary source of imagery, Carey Dean considers her mosaic as painting with glass.
