The Metropolitan Airports Commission created this Travel Confidently MSP Education Center to support travel equity and accessibility. This one-of-a-kind facility supports multiple purposes, including providing travelers who could benefit from a pre-flight experience a place to practice boarding a plane in a realistic environment.
The Travel Confidently MSP Education Center would not be possible without Delta Air Lines’ donation of this mock aircraft cabin, financial support from the Airport Foundation MSP, or the moving and purposeful art created by Juxtaposition Arts’ youth artists, whose work was made possible thanks to the Arts@MSP program.
The mock cabin was used for training purposes by Delta Air Lines before being shipped by container truck to MSP. The components were then dismantled, brought into the terminal and reassembled here. The cabin’s 42 seats are from a retired Delta Boeing 737.
Once installed, the cabin’s exterior and the walls of the center became the canvas for local youth artists to create a stunning piece of artwork they call “Equanimity,” which helps create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.
About the Art
All the art in this center was designed by artists from Juxtaposition Arts to invoke calming and serene aspects of natural landscapes and to reflect metaphorical icons of hope and optimism, while the cool and warm color combinations were designed with those who identify with neurodivergent communities in mind.
