Blue lava can be seen at volcanoes like Erta Ale in Ethiopia and Kawah Ijen in Indonesia where an abundance of sulfur deposits in the rocks burn blue when exposed to the oxygen-rich air. Blue lava is toxic because of this added sulfur. Photographers, thrill seekers and sulfur miners should wear gas masks to protect their health. This fused glass painting represents the unique blue lava flow. On display at The Goldman Gallery through April 27th. For purchase info, contact marcie Blackman at 301-881-5512.
