One afternoon in 1948, Robert Doisneau discreetly set up his camera inside the Romi Gallery in Paris looking out to the street. In the centre of the window display was a tasteful work, whilst Doisneau had hung a rather risque painting on the wall to one side. He then captured the reactions of passers-by in his typical fashion. This was perhaps the best of the series. The lady is explaining a detail in the central piece to her husband, but his attention has been captured by the boudoir scene. The title means "The Sideways Glance" although one gets the impression a longer persual is taking place....
Delightful work by Doisneau, a rival to Cartier-Bresson in his ability to capture the "decisive moment".
This is a genuine vintage photogravure, printed in 1955. Archivally mounted on 100% acid-free board, matted to 8" x 10" and in a black wooden frame.
