Fantastic photograph of barrier-breaking actress Anna May Wong by Edward Steichen (1879-1973). Taken in New York in 1930. Steichen’s image appears to be influenced by Man Ray's iconic "Noire et Blanche" of four years before. It remains captivating a century after it was taken.
Wong Liu Tsong (January 3, 1905 – February 3, 1961), known professionally as Anna May Wong, was an American actress, considered the first Chinese American film star in Hollywood, as well as the first Chinese American actress to gain international recognition. Her varied career spanned silent film, sound film, television, stage, and radio.
This is a 9"x11" genuine vintage photogravure, printed 1960 and has the fantastic warmth and tonal range of a platinum print. Archivally mounted on 100% acid-free board, matted to 11" x 14" and in a black wooden frame.
