Artist: Torkel Korling (Swedish-American, 1903-1998)
Torkel Korling (1903-1998) was a Swedish-born American photographer known for his industrial, commercial, portrait, and botanical work. He moved to the U.S. in and his career took off when a Chicago magazine editor hired him in 1926. Korling invented the automatic camera diaphragm in 1933, which became standard on single-lens reflex cameras. His work was featured in Fortune and Life magazines, and he contributed to the Museum of Modern Art's "The Family of Man" exhibition.
