Richard Avedon was one of the foremost photographers of the mid to late twentieth-century, one of the few to bridge the oft-separated gap as both a fashion and fine art photographer, blurring the lines between the two practices. Most closely identified with Irving Penn, he was perhaps most inspired by Cecil Beaton and Henri Cartier-Bresson. In turn, Annie Leibovitz is one of many who name Avedon as a major influence.
