Artist: Paul Strand (American, 1890-1976)
Paul Strand (1890-1976) was an American photographer and filmmaker who played a pivotal role in establishing photography as an art form in the 20th century. Alongside fellow modernist photographers Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston, Strand pushed the boundaries of visual expression. His diverse body of work spans six decades and covers various genres and subjects across the Americas, Europe, and Africa. Strand's iconic photograph "Wall Street" experimented with formal abstractions, influencing artists like Edward Hopper. He also co-founded the Photo League, a cooperative of photographers dedicated to social and political causes.
