Artist: Law Lok (1925-1963)
Law Lok 羅六 belonged to the "Donglinchai" photographic group whose members met regularly at the Ta Tung Restaurant in Central. In those days most of the group wore western-style suits, only Law Lok would don a Chinese costume, and for that reason he was quite conspicuous.
From the 1940s to 60s Law Lok ran a number of businesses and they did well, so he was therefore able to indulge his love of photography. He published Photo Digest, and opened the Rainbow Photo Studio and the World Colour Photo Lab., which was the largest Chinese-owned photographic shop specializing in developing and enlargement.
By the early 1950s Law Lok had already obtained a title of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. Holders of that title are now numerous, but in those days they were few and far between. From his appearance one could not tell that Law Lok was that well-to-do or that well-versed in photography. His modesty contrasts markedly with the boastfulness of those who like to flaunt their achievements, however insignificant.
