Artist: Hong Hao (Chinese, b. 1965)
Hong Hao 洪浩 (b.1965) is a contemporary Chinese artist known for his unique use of photography to produce work. Assembling images, maps, food, and other objects upon a scanner, Hong treats the scanner bed as a collage chamber in which all things can be ordered. Born in 1965 in Beijing, China, he studied printmaking at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the late 1980s. After primarily using printmaking techniques the artist began working with photography in 1999, and, in 2001, began his most well-known series, My Things. In this series of work, Hong explored the development of Chinese consumer culture through his own life and acquisitions. He currently lives and works in Beijing, China. Today, the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, among others.
