Herbert Matter (1907-1984) was a Swiss-born American photographer and graphic designer renowned for his pioneering use of photomontage in commercial art. He studied under Fernand Léger and Amédée Ozenfant in Paris, later assisting Cassandre and Le Corbusier. Matter's innovative work helped shape 20th-century graphic design, and he contributed to iconic projects like the Swiss National Tourist Office posters and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's design. He also taught at Yale University, influencing generations of artists.
