Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) was one of the most original, accomplished, influential, and beloved figures in the history of photography. Inspired by an iconic Martin Munkacsi photo in 1930, he acquired one of the first Leica 35mm rangefinders and transformed street photography. He counted Man Ray, André Kertész, and Eugène Atget as major influences. In 1947, he partnered with Robert Capa and others to found Magnum Photos and covered India and China for the agency.
